One Day More

Alright, it has been an awfully long time since I've been writing on here, and of course, it would take Les Miserable for me to sit my ass down and start blogging. There are so many reasons, and most of them very personal why I love this musical so much. It is my favorite musical of all time, and that probably has a lot to do with the fact that I was apart of a theatre company back in high school that produced Les Mis (and I played the tragic Eponine, whom I could definitely relate to at the time) and I just love the songs.
Anyway, the film...honestly, this has to be one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen. Everything was incredibly amazing about it! The hair and make-up, the Cinematography, the Oscar worthy acting performances (we'll get to ) and the art direction! Just simply perfect. Also these songs were not pre-recorded, and this is actually the first film-musical to have ever attempted that, and I am giving them a standing ovation.
Hugh Jackman, was I'm not even going to lie, super sexy as Valjean in the beginning, although he did look like that creepy old beggar Jafaar turned himself into in Aladdin, but anyway he NEEDS TO WIN AN OSCAR FOR HIS PERFORMANCE. Jackman's last scene brought me to tears and for the first time in a long time I really felt as though I was watching a character throughout the entire film, not once did I remember he was acting.

Anne Hathaway, surprisingly for being in only 15 minutes of the film brought out more emotions in me than any other character. Her rendition of "I Dreamed A Dream" was one of the most beautiful moments in film history ever, and I love how they filmed it in one static shot.
I don't care what anyone says, Russell Crowe's singing ability really brought down my respect for the character of Javert. I do understand that it makes sense for Javert's character to be the least musical, and some people really did like Crowe's performance, however; I thought is acting was great, but the singing wasn't. Maybe it's because I'm so used to watching the stage adaptations where Javert's always have that strong, deep voice.
Eponine is of course my favorite character, and although I thought Samantha Barks was amazing in the 25th Anniversary Concert, I didn't really feel for her in the film..I felt like altogether they downgraded the character of Eponine, especially her death which I was really disappointed in. Marius and Cossette were I think, just as they should be and there was some great eye-candy in Enjorlas. The Thenardiers were not what I was expecting at all, I thought them to be more eccentric and crazy, but surprisingly Sacha Baron Cohen's adaptation of Thenardier was brilliant and he was one of my favorite characters.

I've seen the film twice, both with large groups, and every single person whom I have watched with simply loved the film whether they knew about the musical beforehand or came into it with an open mind. I highly recommend it to everyone, and it may be a bit much with all of the singing, but I feel like that can be overlooked.
