etalk

So I've been here at etalk for almost 2 months and I had to write a blog entry for my school about what I've been up to, and I just wanted to share it with everyone!

Oh gosh, I miss all of you and I hope you're doing well at your internships! I'm currently at 299 Queen St W as well, interning at etalk! Something I've wanted to do for the longest time now, and I couldn't be more happier that I got it. I can't believe it's already been a month, but let's see...

I got thrown into everything in at the beginning of TIFF, which is etalk's busiest time of year, seriously, it was crazy, producers were always in and out, and our daily routines were all over the place. I'm with two other interns, one who is part time, and at first I thought that three interns was a bit much, but etalk usually has 5 interns at once surprisingly, and majority of the time, we are constantly busy. There are three rotations, each lasts two weeks; morning shows/library, competition reports/control room and EFP shoots. For morning shows I come in an hour early and watch GMA, The Today Show and any late night shows, take notes and tell the producers about what I've watched at the morning meetings. Library duties include shot listing, and transcribing episodes or segments and interviews and organizing and fetching tapes from the basement to producers. Control room we go down to the control room of course and work as CG for the daily show and time code everything. It's actually incredibly stressful at first, thank god for Dan's class! EFP shoots we can go and shadow the producers when they go on shoots, ex, TIFF, TV/movie sets, I'm actually going to help out with a Kate Gosselin interview later this week haha.

Once in a while there are "intern" duties, like I had to get Veggienaise (Mayo, but made with veggies....) for Gwenyth Paltrow. But other than the random run, they give us a lot of responsibility. I've been given the opportunity to write an interview for Brody Jenner and Jeanne Beker. We also have pitch meetings every Tuesday where we all pitch segment ideas or possible interviews for the show, if your pitch gets chosen then you get to write it.

Daily routines are going to the morning meetings and all the producers pitch what entertainment stories can be featured on our daily show, if anyone watches TMZ, it's pretty much like that. Then we go on either digitizing footage, finding footage and viz for the show or helping producers with any duties they'll need done. I then go for an hour lunch break (usually with Jake, who's just a floor above me!) and then come back before 2, which is when the show starts filming and spend about an hour and a bit in control room. After the show is done filming, it usually slows down for the last hour.

I am loving every minute of working here, the producers, crew and hosts are so amazing, and I'm doing what I love, reading celebrity gossip! haha I'm really getting a better idea of what I'd like to be doing in the future. I hope everyone is enjoying their placements as well! Look forward to reading about everything!
